Frequently Asked Questions

Where is 18 Mile Creek Golf Course?

18 Mile Creek Golf Course is a public course operated by the Town of Hamburg.  It is located at 6374 Boston State Road, Hamburg, NY.  You can click this link to the map of the course location.  Follow this link to go to the Town of Hamburg web site to find out additional information for the course.

Is the Hamburg Men's Golf Club operated by the Town of Hamburg?

The Hamburg Men's Golf Club is not affiliated with the Town of Hamburg.  It is run by a Board of Directors and consists of several committees to assist with the operation of the Club.  There are two other clubs operating out of the 18 Mike Creek Golf Course: The Women's Club, and Men's "65" Club.  The Hamburg Men's Golf Club is not affiliated with either of these clubs.

How do  you become a member of the Hamburg Men's Golf Club?

If you want to become a member, you will need to fill out a membership application and send it in with the appropriate fee.  The Club is limited to 150 members and if that level is reached you will be put on a waiting list until there is room available.  The Club currently has 75 members.

What if I don't have a handicap?

The Club uses the USGA GHIN system.  When you become a member, if  you do not already have a GHIN account, you will be signed up for one by the club.  The cost of the GHIN account is included in your dues.  As you play rounds at 18 Mile Creek Golf Course or another course you will enter the scores on the GHIN web site.  After you have accumulated five (5) 18-hole scores you will be assigned a temporary handicap.  After you have accumulated 20 18-hole scores you will have an official handicap.

What if I have a handicap from another club?

The Club uses the USGA GHIN system.  If your current club uses the GHIN system you are all set and can continue to use your GHIN account and handicap.  If your current club does not use the GHIN system, you will be assigned a new GHIN account through the club.  See above.  You will need to provide the club with your last 20 scores to be entered into the GHIN system. The cost of the GHIN account is included in your dues.

As a new member, how do I find club members that I can golf with?

Most Club members golf on the weekends and it is easy to meet up with them at that time.  Talk to a Board Member and ask them to introduce you to some of the Club members.  Use the Chat feature on the website to post a notice that you are looking for a group to play with.

How do I sign up for events?

Historically the Club has posted sign-up sheets at the course to allow members to sign up for all events.  This year there is a mixture of signup at the course or on the web site.  Please look at the tournament information to see where to sign up.

Are event costs covered under my registration fee?

Almost all costs for events are covered by your registration fee.  Some events require an additional registration fee, but those are not determined until the full schedule has been set.  In addition, for many of the larger events the Club runs a skins game that all event participants, at their option, may enter.

What are "Counter Top Skins"?

Members of the Club run an optional scratch skins game (no handicaps) every Saturday and Sunday as long as there are enough people entered (usually more than 10).  This skins game is not run by the Club nor is it run by Mary (operator of the snack bar).  The cost in the past has been $10 per person.  Sign-up and pay before you start your round.  The sign-up sheet and cash envelope are on the counter of the snack bar.  Usually the last group or person finishing their round that day will determine the number of skins won and amount paid out to the winners.  If you are not there to collect your winnings, Mary is nice enough to hold them for the participants.  The results are usually kept on the Club board at the course.

Who do I contact if I want to sponsor the club?

Please contact a Board Member if you are interested in providing a sponsorship to the Club.
