Local Rules

at

18 Mile Creek Golf Course

The club has established certain playing rules that apply to holes at the 18 Mile Creek Golf Course.  Please follow these rules when playing competitive events.  It is upon you as a player to make sure yourself all members are following these rules and the rules of golf.

BALL LOST OR OUT OF BOUNDS

If you believe a ball to have gone out of bounds or might have been lost please hit a provisional ball.  In this situation USGA rules require a player to rehit from the original spot.  You are NOT allowed by the rules to drop a ball at the location you believe it to have been lost or where you believe it to have gone out of bounds.

If you find your original ball or it is not out of bounds you will pick up the provisional ball and play your original ball.  If your ball is lost or out of bounds you will play your provisional with the appropriate penalty.  By hitting a provisional ball you will not have to go back and re-tee or hit from the original spot because you will use your provisional ball.  Hitting a provisional ball will speed up play.

*****PLEASE NOTE*****

The nearest point of relief rule is used on many of the holes.

Please refer to this VIDEO for application of this rule.

Local Rules

All holes:

-Due to limited staffing at the course not all lateral hazards have been marked by the course maintenance staff.  If a local rule is not listed for a wooded area or field area on the course, it should be played as a lateral hazard.

-If your ball lands in the mulched area or dirt area of a staked tree, a free drop using the nearest point of relief rule is allowed.

-If your ball lands in the mulch or dirt area of a tree and this area is lower than the adjacent ground level, a free drop using the nearest point of relief rule is allowed.

-In the fairway or rough, areas that are bare or have very little grass, a free drop using the nearest point of relief rule is allowed.  Please confirm the location with your playing partners.

-Balls landing on the cart path should be moved using the nearest point of relief rule.

Hole #1 - Balls hit into the road are considered out of bounds.  You must re-tee or re-hit from the original spot.  This is an opportunity to hit a provisional ball if you are unsure.

Hole #3 - Balls in the ditch crossing the fairway should be dropped according to the nearest point of  relief rule.  Use the approximate center line of the ditch to determine if you should drop forward or backward, but no closer to the hole.

Hole #4 -

-The wooded areas to the left and behind the green are lateral hazards.

Hole #5 -

-The drainage ditch on the hill along the left side of the hole is a free drop using the nearest point of relief rule.  The lost ball rules do not apply to this drainage ditch.

-The ditch just in front and to the right of the tee boxes is not a lost ball situation.  If you cannot find your ball in the ditch you will take a drop (not placement) of one club length from where you think the ball came to rest.  Please confer with your playing partners for verification of the spot.  If you find your ball you do not get to take a drop.

-The wooded/brush area immediately past the drainage ditch on the left side is a hazard.

-The wooded area behind the green is a hazard.

-The yards to the right of the fairway are out of bounds if marked and a lateral hazard if not marked.  If a lateral hazard you must take a drop.  DO NOT PLAY YOUR BALL FROM SOMEONE'S YARD!  If marked you must re-tee if it went in that area from your tee shot, or re-hit from the spot of your original shot.  This is an opportunity to hit a provisional ball.
